A Coaster Derby is a downhill coasting race. Think soapbox derby with a car you sit in. Cars can be homemade or purchased. Be creative!
The Coaster Derby will take place on July 4th from 2:00-4:00 PM in downtown Ridgefield at 5th Avenue and Simon Street. Pre-registration is not required for participation, however, all racers must check in at 1:30 with their car. Please contact ridgefieldcoasterderby@gmail.com with questions.
Derby Car Rules
The car must be powered solely by gravity - no propulsion is allowed.
The car must have a minimum of three wheels in contact with the road.
The car must have functional brakes - no Fred Flintstone brakes.
The car must have a functional steering system.
The car may not be wider than 5 feet.
The car must be light enough for its race team to push it back up the hill.
Bicycles, skateboards, or similar vehicles do not qualify as a car.
Race Rules
Participants of all ages are welcome. Drivers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian present at the race.
All drivers must wear a secured helmet.
All race teams must arrive by 1:30 for check in.
Only the driver is allowed in the car. No passengers.
No purposeful contact with other cars is allowed - this isn't bumper cars.
All drivers must sign a liability waiver on race day.
